INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF NEWS

fool the nation

A sit down between Canadian comedian and Daily Show Correspondent Jason Jones with popular CNN IBN Editor-In-Chief and Senior Anchor Rajdeep Serdesai reveals the state of Indian news. We observe: Noise – obfuscation of facts, inflation of numbers by 20%, so people will be able to remember them, tweets (even from dead dictators), love of hash tags / what’s trending, and he says he wants hot anchors – I mean hotter than what’s currently available. And then, Jones finds a way to get his story out in a national newspaper – all it takes is Rs. 2,500. Some Indian journalists, it appears, are thriving on accepting bribes to invent news.

If democracy is premised on the notion that the electorate are accurately informed, then so we go from being the largest democracy to the most significant ‘ignocracy’. Certainly explains some electoral decisions, doesn’t it?
