Amazon And Flipkart Battle Over Engineering Graduates In India

In an attempt to boost its Indian presence, online retail giant Amazon is offering salaries that are nearly 50 percent higher than the market average for graduates of top engineering and business schools in the country, Indian business daily Mint reported Tuesday. This follows a competition among investors, with IT Giants Narayan Murthi and Asim Premji squaring off against each other. Premji has to fund through his capital arm, Premji Invest, local players, which have been acquired by Flipkart – and Indian concern. Murthi, on the other hand as backed Amazon. Interestingly, this West vs. East approach is reflected in their charitable contributions: Murthi has donated to Harvard University while Premji made the largest donation in history to Indian education projects.

Both Amazon and Flipkart have raised Billions of dollars to square off against each other in the Indian marketplace.
